sex/sexuality/relationships

Negotiating the world of sex, sexuality, gender identity, intimacy and relationships can for many people be extremely confusing and unfortunately can be accompanied by distressing thoughts and feelings related to shame, stigma, stereotyping, discrimination, inherited values to name but a few.

Without a doubt, there is some great information and resources out there but it can also be overwhelming, often contradictory and in some cases simply out of date. For example the term “sex addiction” can in some cases seem entirely appropriate but equally, in many cases, the term can be meaningless and may have little to back it up in terms of evidence base. Counselling can help you to explore what for you feels appropriate within your own context, and in your learning to build a healthy creative relationship with your sexuality, sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Ensuring that your relationship with yourself and others is as healthy as possible might just be one of the important things that you can do for yourself.

Some of the issues that people often seek support with include the following:

  • Questions or concerns over sexual “acting out”,

  • Exploring how to  come to terms with or learn healthier ways of integrating sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

  • Working through challenges relating to intimacy

  • Healing from difficulties or trauma related to any of these areas or from previous life experiences

  • Exploring how to establish and maintain healthy relationships

This is by no means an exhaustive list and our initial assessment would be an opportunity to discuss what you feel is most relevant to you.
